3. Principles
When dealing with sudden unexpected death all agencies must follow five common principles, especially when having contact with family members.
- Caring and sensitivity, keeping an open mind and balanced approach.
- An inter agency response
- Sharing of information
- Proportionate response to the circumstances
- Preservation of evidence
All items on this list are equal in importance.
In applying the above principles individuals and agencies should ensure that their actions are legal, necessary, relevant and proportionate in order to comply with the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004 and the Human Rights Act 1998.
