1. Introduction
Working with children and families takes place within a legal context, including when action should be taken to protect a child.
Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006 states that:
‘All organizations that work with children and families share a commitment to safeguard and promote their welfare and for many agencies that is underpinned by a statutory duty or duties’
This procedure briefly explains the legislation most relevant to working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
Practitioners should always seek advice in relation to the application of the law.
