CDOP data sharing
The Greater Manchester CDOP Chairs and Administrators have worked together to identify a common data set to be recorded across Greater Manchester to allow trends and strategies to be identified more easily by looking at a larger population. GM Chairs and The Greater Manchester Safeguarding Partnership will be able to look at emerging themes and issues and make proposals for minimising risks locally, regionally and nationally.
The CDOPs request the support of LSCBs and Partners in collecting and passing on this information as thoroughly and promptly as possible to enable an effective CDOP process. In Greater Manchester we will now be analysing details of the deaths of children under 1 in the same way as we previously looked at neonatal deaths of babies under 28 days. This will allow the potential to pick up on relevant issues for all babies, not just early neonatal deaths. In order to do this, CDOPs require partners to send in full information following the death of a baby under 1 year that was previously sent only for deaths of babies under 28 days. This usually takes the form of the CMACE pdn form.
This breifing for LSCBs and partners has more information. If you have any queries or for a list of the agreed fields for the new databse, please contact your CDOP Chair or Administrator or Kate Wood. The project team are currently forming a policy document to outline the system, data protection measures in place and information sharing protocols. This will be passed to relevant colleagues and it will be available here when agreed.
CMACE:
The CMACE contract for collecting data on perinatal deaths has ended and as such the National Patient Safety Agency are advising Units to continue to complete the CMACE form following a neonatal death but to keep a copy of this on file in the Unit and to cease sending these to CMACE offices immediately.
In line with this, Greater Manchester CDOPs still require a copy of the CMACE form to enable them to analyse neonatal deaths appropriately. Once further guidance or another system is introduced nationally this will be reviewed. Your CDOP teams will keep you informed of any further changes.
